We are in the waiting place. The limbo between destinies.
actually, the reality is a little less dramatic. We are in a hospital. But first, to understand all this, we must travel back in time…
7 WEEKS EARLIER
We express interest in looking after one of Kuyas 6 children to help out. Lenuel in thrust into our arms and we enrol him in the school in the country. We view this experience with an open mind as a “try before you buy” trial run of having a second child. Lenuel is an adorable angel and settles in about as best as a 6-year-old can. He deserves his own post along with all the adorable photos of our 3.5 weeks as a foursome.
5 WEEKS EARLIER
Julian hacks off half his finger. We are forced to hurry to town on a borrowed motorcycle. Everyone agrees that it was a lovely motorcycle ride and we should try it again without the urgency that a nicked artery brings to such situations.
4 WEEKS EARLIER
After recuperating in town for a week and leaving the house and keys with our neighbours we return. We find a small, but unmistakable item missing. After long discussions, Julian and Roxy decide it is time to move on. Being able to leave the house for the odd week now and then is no longer viable. We also feel our wealth creates too much friction in a town where people eat rice and salt in the lean times for weeks on end. We set tentative plans to pack up the house and tour the Philippines when Lenuel finishes school in October.
3.5 WEEKS EARLIER
Our closest neighbour is sexually assaulted by our second closest neighbour. The assaulted visits Roxanne and warns her not to leave the house at night for safety’s sake. After short discussion we decide to leave the next morning. Julian nails the windows shut. We leave the next morning broken hearted but consoling ourselves with dreams of a motorbike tour of the Philippines.
3 WEEKS EARLIER
Kuya and his wife experience some pretty severe relationship turbulence. At one point the 6 kids are living in 4 different locations. The motorbike is bought. The motorbike tour is put on hold while we support Kuya however we can and reel the family together.
1.5 WEEKS EARLIER
Roxanne’s mum arrives and stays for a week.
0.5 WEEKS EARLIER
Myles gets a UTI which lands him in hospital. Recommended treatment: rest and Gatorade.
So here we are in the hospital room together waiting. Waiting for our little man to mend so we can go touring on this island. Stay tuned kids!
